Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

I saw The Winter Soldier last night at the Marcus North Shore.  As far as Marvel Avengers movies go, it was pretty good.  It did not take itself too seriously but it also was not one long fight scene.  In this movie, Captain Steve Rogers struggles to come to terms with the future while trying to save it.  His primary foe is a shadowy ex-Soviet agent known as the Winter Soldier.

I really do not think it is going to be winning any awards but it is a good escape.  It was a nice.  I especially found Robert Redford’s portrayal of Alexander Pierce especially enjoyable.  I would say that it is worth the cost of admission.

300: Rise of an Empire

Movie Poster for 300: Rise of an Empire

300: Rise of an Empire

I saw this movie friday night at the Marcus North Shore.  300: Rise of an Empire is the sequel  to the 2007 movie but the two story lines occupy the same period of time.  I never saw the original and this movie does stand well on its own.

Rise of an Empire follows Greek general Themistokles (Sulivan Stapleton) as he tries to fend off the Persian forces, led by Artemisia (Eva Green).

The storyline was not great but it was well-paced.  The combination of the action and the acting kept my attention until the end.  The fight scenes were the high-point.  They definitely fed my inner 8yr old.

Would I see it a second time?  Probably not.  In my opinion, it is a very good movie to rent or catch on netflix.  It was not a bad movie but I have seen better.
