Bad Words

Bad Words

Bad Words

I saw Bad Words on Friday night, at the Saukville Marcus Cinema.  This is the story of Guy Trilby, a 40yr-old copy editor, who enters the national spelling bee.  He exploits a loophole (the fact that he never graduated from the 8th grade) to get into the competition.  Reporter Jenny Widgeon (played by Kathryn Hahn) follows him through the story, in an attempt to learn why he is doing what he is doing.

This was a pretty bad movie.  The combination of this and the 2013 movie Identity Thief makes me question Jason Bateman’s ability to act.  The only bright spot is the relationship between Guy and Chaitanya Chopra (played by Rohan Chand).

I can not even recommend watching this for free.  Find something else.

Mr. Peabody & Sherman

Mr. Peabody & Sherman

Mr. Peabody & Sherman

Mr Peabody & Sherman is based upon the 1960s classic ‘Peabody’s Improbably History’, by Ted Key.  Mr Peabody is a super intelligent beagle who is a business magnate, inventor, gourmand, and two-time Olympic medalist.  Mr Peabody discovers Sherman orphaned and abandoned in an alley.  After successfully petitioning the court, Mr Peabody adopts Sherman.

The movie focuses on the relationship between Mr Peabody and Sherman.  As Sherman begins school, he has a fight with one of his classmates.  In an attempt to rectify the situation, Mr Peabody invites the girl and her parents over for dinner.  Sherman ends up showing her the WABAC machine and wacky happenings ensue.

This is a very good movie for audiences young and old.  The character development is good and the dialog is genuinely funny.  I liked it.
