For decades the seven-inch-long shell had been a family memento, polished and given pride of place on the mantlepiece.
The First World War relic also served as a toy and finally, for the past 20 years, as a front doorstop at the home of 68-year-old Thelma Bonnett.
At any time during all those years, however, it could have exploded.
The German squat shell was live, packed with its original payload and with its firing mechanism primed, experts have said.

This is a bizarre communist propaganda video showing how Stalin would of been greeted in Berlin right after the war if he had ever been to Berlin and if we were in an odd communist alternative reality. I think I may have spotted a Chinese solder waving an Italian flag in the crowd storming the plane.

This pisses me off. The government awarded this company billions of dollars worth of no-bid contracts (thank you Vice President Dick Cheney!) and they’re now moving to Dubai!?!? The money’s not even staying in the US now!
U.S. oil services firm Halliburton Co. is moving its headquarters and chief executive to Dubai in a move that immediately sparked criticism from some U.S. politicians.

“This is an insult to the U.S. soldiers and taxpayers who paid the tab for their no-bid contracts and endured their overcharges for all these years,” said judiciary committee chairman Sen. Patrick Leahy, a Vermont Democrat.
