Well, I guess it will. Someone’s gotta patch vulnerabilities and clean infected systems.
A Microsoft-commissioned study estimates that Windows Vista could create 100,000 new IT-related jobs in the United States.
The study, which was performed by IDC, also estimates that for every dollar of Vista-related revenue that Microsoft takes in next year, $18 will be generated for the technology industry as a whole.

Microsoft’s new activation policies call for every single copy of the new operating system to be activated. This includes copies purchased as part of the company’s corporate volume licensing program, and Microsoft tried to make the process less daunting for IT administrators.
The company created something called the “Key Management Service,” which would allow the administrator to activate all the computers in a single swoop. From there, a central computer would maintain all activations for the network.
To prevent piracy, however, the activation is good only for a period of 180 days. After that, the computer would need to reconnect with the KMS to receive another key. This was done to discourage people from attempting to use the KMS to activate their own computers at home.
But it was only a matter of time before hackers figured out how to reproduce a local KMS using a VMware image and a VBS script. From there, as long as the edition of Vista is either Business or Enterprise, the keys generated would successfully activate the operating system.

I love how Microsoft’s solution is to say, just don’t open word files.
Microsoft is investigating a new report of limited “zero-day” attacks using a vulnerability in Microsoft Word 2000, Microsoft Word 2002, Microsoft Office Word 2003, Microsoft Word Viewer 2003, Microsoft Word 2004 for Mac, and Microsoft Word 2004 v. X for Mac, as well as Microsoft Works 2004, 2005, and 2006.
In order for this attack to be carried out, a user must first open a malicious Word file attached to an e-mail or otherwise provided to them by an attacker.

This is just another example of the fact that any DRM scheme can be broken.
We knew it would be done sooner or later, and now that we have the mod to use your Zune as a portable hard drive, a method to bypass the Zune’s WiFi sharing DRM is finally here.
First, you need to enable hard drive mode using the instructions we posted before. Then, rename whatever files—MP3s, movies, programs—to have the extension “.jpg” in order to fool the Zune into thinking it’s an image. This hack works because Zune doesn’t apply DRM to images!
Then what?
Now, take your Zune and send the folder containing these files to your buddy along with a real photo. If you only send a fake photo, an error is thrown. The last step is to have your friend sync the Zune with their computer, open the “containing folder” where the files were downloaded, and rename the files back to their correct extension.
