Sex offender, 29, posed as seventh-grader in Arizona school

published on January 23rd, 2007 . by joe

A youthful-looking sex offender who enrolled in a charter school northwest of Phoenix spent one day in the seventh grade while pretending to be a 12-year-old boy, school officials said Monday.

The Mingus Springs Charter School in Chino Valley, about 90 miles northwest of Phoenix, allowed Neil Havens Rodreick II into school last week. But director Dawn Gonzales said officials called authorities when a man posing as his grandfather presented guardianship papers and a birth certificate that looked phony.

“We thought we had a child abduction here,” Gonzales said.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office later arrested Rodreick, who is actually 29. The man posing as Rodreick’s grandfather, Lonnie Stiffler, 61, also was arrested with two other men, Brian J. Nellis, 34, and Robert James Snow, 43.

Professional Pillow Fighting League

published on January 22nd, 2007 . by joe

Have you ever sat around with your friends, wondering why there isn’t an organized sport involving cute bloodthirsty women beating the crap out of each other with pillows?  Well, the fine folks at the Pillow Fighting League (or simply PFL) have stepped in to fill that need.  According to the league’s website, the rules are:

(1) Women Fighters Only. No Exceptions.

(2) Fights have a five minute time limit and are won via pinfall, surrender, or referee stoppage. If a fight ends at the time limit with no winner, a winner is declared by a three-judge committee.

(3) Punching, leg drops, clotheslines, submission holds, and other moves
are allowed as long as a pillow is used to execute the attack.

(4) Preventing an opponents’ pillow strike by holding her pillow results in a warning from the referee. Judges may choose to include these warnings as part of their judging criteria if a fight goes the distance.

(5) No eye-gouging, biting, scratching, hair pulling, or low blows.

(6) No rude, lewd, or suggestive behavior.

(7) Loading a pillow with a foreign object such as a brick is
strictly forbidden.

My only question is, when can I start seeing this on espn?

New secure VPN tunneling protocol in the works at Microsoft

published on January 22nd, 2007 . by joe

With the ubiquity of Windows in today’s world, this could be a very good thing.  I just hope they properly implement it.

Microsoft is working on a remote access tunneling protocol for Vista and Longhorn Server that lets client devices securely access networks via a VPN from anywhere on the Internet without concern for typical port blocking issues.
The Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol (SSTP) creates a VPN tunnel that travels over Secure-HTTP, eliminating issues associated VPN connections based on the Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) or Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) that can be blocked by some Web proxies, firewalls and Network Address Translation (NAT) routers that sit between clients and servers.
The protocol, however, is only for remote access and will not support site-to-site VPN tunnels.
