This is very interesting. The Guide Horse Foundation provides “a safe, cost-effective and reliable mobility alternative for visually impaired people.” Supposedly, a really small horse is cheaper to train and lives longer than a dog.
There are many compelling reasons to use miniature horses as guide animals. Horses are natural guide animals and have been guiding humans for centuries. In nature, horses have been shown to possess a natural guide instinct. When another horse goes blind in a herd, a sighted horse accepts responsibility for the welfare of the blind horse and guides it with the herd. With humans, many blind people ride horses in equestrian competitions. Some blind people ride alone on trails for many miles, completely relying on the horse to guide them safely to their destination.

I don’t know how this will effect the distribution of VLC (if at all) but according to Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde, “Starting tomorrow December 31st 2006, reading a DVD protected with CSS (as most DVD are) is illegal in France when it is done with a software allowing to circumvent the protection, such as VLC or mplayer which can both use the libdvdcss library.”
Just in case, I’ve saved the current version of VLC for safe keeping.
VLC 0.8.6 (Win32), VLC 0.8.6 (OSX), Journal Officiel (In French)

Wow! I never knew that the Russians were this far ahead of the rest of the world in processor technology! I think my next project may just be powered by this triple core processor.
