McDonalds to patent the sandwich!

published on November 26th, 2006 . by joe

I’m guessing there may be prior art that may cause questions. :)

The fast-food chain has applied for a patent relating to the ‘method and apparatus’ used to prepare the snack.
The burger company says owning the ‘intellectual property rights’ would help its hot deli sandwiches look and taste the same at all of its restaurants.

HOWTO break Zune’s WiFi DRM!

published on November 25th, 2006 . by joe

This is just another example of the fact that any DRM scheme can be broken.

We knew it would be done sooner or later, and now that we have the mod to use your Zune as a portable hard drive, a method to bypass the Zune’s WiFi sharing DRM is finally here.

First, you need to enable hard drive mode using the instructions we posted before. Then, rename whatever files—MP3s, movies, programs—to have the extension “.jpg” in order to fool the Zune into thinking it’s an image. This hack works because Zune doesn’t apply DRM to images!

Then what?

Now, take your Zune and send the folder containing these files to your buddy along with a real photo. If you only send a fake photo, an error is thrown. The last step is to have your friend sync the Zune with their computer, open the “containing folder” where the files were downloaded, and rename the files back to their correct extension.

Russian ex-spy assasinated with “major dose” of radioactive polonium-210?

published on November 24th, 2006 . by joe

This is like something out of a James Bond movie. I didn’t know this type of stuff still happened.

Mr Litvinenko’s death has been linked to the presence of a “major dose” of radioactive polonium-210 in his body.

Scotland Yard confirmed traces were also found at his home, a sushi bar and a hotel, but the risk to others was said by health experts to be very low.

The Kremlin has denied UK citizen Mr Litvinenko’s claims it was involved.

Gripes About Winamp

published on November 24th, 2006 . by joe

I’ve been a longtime fan of Winamp. I have noticed recently that the product has been going into a bit of a quality tailspin. Load-time has tripled if not quadrupled, a number of “add-ons” have been added to the installer, and now banner ads are being added into the user interface. I fear that all of the reasons I originally endorsed this product are all gone. What happened to my beloved player??
