I can’t wait for the quad-core processors. I think I am going to buy AMD though.
For those of you who hadn’t seen this coming — you should have — Intel’s desktop quad-core “Core 2″ processor is on the way. Intel’s most recent launch update claims the chip will come in two iterations, the first of which will be here in November 2006. Both chips have Socket 775 packaging and utilize a 1066MHz front-side bus.

There’s been nothing but bad news for Sony lately. First Dell recalls 4.1 million spontaneously combusting Sony laptop batteries, then Apple recalls 1.8 million spontaneously combusting Sony laptop batteries, then they have release delays for both the ps3 and the new walkman, and now Toshiba recalls 340,000 Sony laptop batteries. I think it’s the bad karma from the whole rootkit issue.
Toshiba is recalling 340,000 laptop batteries made by Sony Corp. because of problems with recharging them, the latest in a string of embarrassing defects and production glitches for Sony.
The recall affects 100,000 batteries for laptops sold in the United States, 45,000 in Japan, and the remainder in other parts of the world, Toshiba Corp. spokesman Keisuke Omori said Tuesday, declining to quantify the number of problems reported by customers.
The Toshiba recall involves battery packs for Dynabook and Satellite models made from March through May this year, and they will be replaced for free, Omori said. The batteries sometimes stop recharging or run out of power, but no injuries or other accidents have been reported, he said.

This is a wonderful step forward. Maybe someone is actually starting to understand that people want their music in a form they can use. I think this could be a good thing for both Yahoo and Disney.
In a first for mainstream pop music, Yahoo! will sell Jesse McCartney’s new album “Right Where You Want Me,” from Disney-owned Hollywood Records, in the unprotected MP3 format.
That means consumers will be able to play it on any digital music device, including Apple’s iPod. MP3 files are the only type that will play on an iPod besides those downloaded from iTunes.
“We’re trying to be realistic,” said Ken Bunt, senior VP of marketing at Hollywood Records. “Jesse’s single is already online and we haven’t put it out. Piracy happens regardless of what we do. So we’re going to see how Jesse’s album goes (as an MP3) and then decide on others going forward.”

A German art student tried to join a Chinese dynasty’s army _ but he volunteered centuries too late.
The 26-year-old man _ identified only as “Pablo” or by his Chinese name “Ma Lin” _ made a dusty brown suit of armor, a tunic and a helmet, and attempted to blend in with the ancient warriors of the terra cotta army in the western city of Xi’an, the Hong Kong newspapers Ming Pao Daily News and Wen Wei Po reported on Monday.
The outfit matched the uniforms worn by the thousands of terra cotta soldiers buried in the tomb of the Emperor Qin Shihuangdi, who ruled between 221-210 B.C., the papers said. The soldiers _ one of China’s greatest archaeological discoveries _ are displayed in a Xi’an museum.
