Newest Microsoft Internet Explorer Bug Exploit Now In Wide Use

published on September 21st, 2006 . by joe

This is why I always say that it is foolish to use Internet Explorer.  It is poorly written and poorly maintained.

There’s a number of unpatched (or so called 0-day) flaws around at the moment, but this one takes advantage of a flaw within the Vector Markup Language (VML) component of IE.

VML is an XML file that allows vector drawings to be delivered to surfers. The security bug is unrelated to a (still unpatched) flaw in Microsoft’s Direct Animation Path (daxctle.ocx) ActiveX control discovered last week.

Security researchers at Sunbelt Software report the latest exploit is being used to install spyware on vulnerable systems visiting hostile sites.

To avoid such drive-by downloads, users are advised to avoid visiting pr0n sites. In the circumstances, use of an alternative browser such as Firefox or Opera is also to be advised.

Men smuggled monkeys, leopard cubs, orchids, and birds of paradise in pants

published on September 20th, 2006 . by joe

How the hell do people come up with these kinds of ideas?

When the rare birds of paradise escaped from his suitcase and flew over the heads of U.S. Customs Agents at Los Angeles International Airport, Robert Cusack decided it was best to confess that, yes, he did have more to declare.

“I have monkeys in my pants,” Cusack told the agents.

Two endangered slow loris pygmy monkeys were rescued from Cusack’s underwear.

Jerusalem? There is no such city!

published on September 20th, 2006 . by joe

You gotta love a good mistranslation!

Something always gets lost in translation, but usually not an entire city.
“Jerusalem. There is no such city!” the Jerusalem municipality said in the English-language version of a sightseeing brochure it had published originally in Hebrew.
The correct translation: “Jerusalem. There is no city like it!”
Carrying a photograph of the brochure, Israel’s Maariv newspaper said Wednesday tens of thousands of flyers had been distributed before city hall realized its mistake.
