A German woman sparked panic at her local post office when a 1.5-meter (5-foot) albino python escaped from a packet she had mailed, police said Tuesday. The 28-year-old woman, who had sold the snake over the Internet, stuffed it in a package labeled “attention — glass” to be sent to its new owner.

It appears that there are three plants in the US that slaughter horses and ship the meat overseas as food. Some animal rights activists tried to get a bill passed to eliminate the horse slaughter but the republican that they got to back it changed his mind. I’m just wondering who actually eats horse. That’s a little odd.
Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Joe Barton, R-Texas, said in the first hearing on a proposal on the divisive issue that he no longer supports legislation aimed at ending the slaughter of horses in the United States for consumption overseas.
Pickens, a major Republican contributor, chastised his own state for being home to two horse slaughter plants. The third is in Illinois.
Pickens said nearly all thoroughbreds, Arabians, quarter horses and wild mustangs sent to the plants are healthy young horses that he said the USDA has said are in “good to excellent” condition. He questioned why the state allows foreign countries, that he said pay little taxes, to slaughter American horses for consumption abroad.
Dick Koehler, vice president of Beltex Corp., owner of a Fort Worth-based horse slaughter plant, urged lawmakers not to eliminate an entire industry, “just because animal rights activists find the product of this law abiding, tax paying legitimate business to be distasteful.”
The proposed legislation does not ban the slaughter of horses outright. Instead it bans shipping, transportation, delivery, receiving, buying or selling or donating of horses for slaughter for human consumption, putting it under the jurisdiction of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. The bill also would prevent sending horses from the U.S. to Canada or Mexico to be slaughtered.

It appears that the band Metallica has finally decided to offer their music via iTunes. They had previously resisted due to the fact that iTunes allows you to buy individual songs and they wanted to only allow their music to be sold as complete albums. I have two questions. Are they just now realizing the value of electronic distribution of music and Who the hell listens to Metallica?

I wonder if he’ll get a bulk deal.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is visiting Russia, where he is expected to sign deals to buy new fighter jets and helicopters. He will visit Volgograd - formerly Stalingrad - on Tuesday, and later the Urals town of Izhevsk, where Kalashnikov assault rifles are made. The US has tried to persuade Russia not to supply weapons to Venezuela.
